Job or Project Description
The Jazz Gallery, an award winning and nationally recognized non-profit focused on presenting and nurturing the next generation of great Jazz artists, is seeking an Executive Director to assist and support the Board and it's talented staff to continue achieving the organization's mission. The Executive Director will interact with the Board or Directors, the staff, supporters, volunteers, members and the general public. Simply put, the Executive Director will be the face of the organization, and responsible for the overall administration and management of The Jazz Gallery as described below.
Key duties:
1) Oversight and growth of the yearly budget including developing annual and long term fundraising goals
2) Delivery and presentation to the Board of timely and accurate Financial Reports
3) Working with a Finance Committee and an outside auditor on fiscal and legal oversight and compliance
4) All activities related to fundraising, including collaborating with a contracted grant writer, donor relations and tracking
5) Board development.
Other areas of day to day concern include the Jazz Gallery's membership database, website, and overall social media presence. Much of this work will be carried out by employees and volunteers, but it is essential that the Executive Director understand and exhibit leadership in all of these spheres, particularly with budgeting, financial reporting, fundraising, and board cultivation..
Qualifications:
• Demonstrates passion, commitment and understanding of the current jazz scene, particularly the issues faced by younger and emerging artists.
• Financial management experience required, Non-profit financial management experience preferred. Quickbooks knowledge a big plus.
• Working knowledge of the laws governing 501(c)3 charitable organizations.
• Successful fundraising (through submission and follow-up of grants to foundations, corporations and other potential supporters) preferred
(An entrepreneurial spirit with the willingness and the ability to learn fundraising on the fly, required.)
• Experience in board development and volunteer recruitment.
• Familiarity and comfort using and learning to use all aspects of social media.
• Exemplary communication skills including writing, public speaking and an ability to network with community partners. Excel proficiency required.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple and competing priorities.
• MBA or Master's Degree in Non-profit Management or related field or commensurate experience preferred.
The Executive Director will be hired by and directly accountable to the Board of Directors of the Jazz Gallery. She or he must be able to consistently and successfully perform all essential functions of the position, possess integrity and a strong work ethic, and be a self starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
This is a part-time position (0.5 FTE), with flexible hours and flexible vacation, and room for possible growth to full-time. The Executive Director will work predominantly from home but you must live within a reasonable commute to our performance space at 27th St. and Broadway and available on some evenings, especially on the weekend. Salary range is $35,000 - $40,000 dependent on experience, with possible year-end performance bonuses. No benefits are offered at this time.
